"Quantum of Solace" cast members Daniel Craig (James Bond) and Olga Kurylenko (Camille) flew down to Los Angeles from Toronto on Friday 17th October to do some early marketing promos for the new film. Craig made the headline guest appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" that aired on NBC in the USA.

Walking in with a sling on his right arm, the first questions from host Jay Leno were about his physical condition. Craig explained the procedure he elected to have after filming on "Quantum of Solace" had wrapped. "I had shoulder reconstruction so I've got six dissolving screws in my joint. First off they wrap you up and it's uncomfortable to sleep but I'm in the rehabilitation stage now and it's all looking good."

"During the filming I got kicked in the face. There's a fight sequence at the end where I'm battling the bad guy and I got hit by a stray shoe so I went to see a plastic surgeon and he put eight little stitches in there. I asked him to do the rest of my face but he didn't have time [laughs]. I injured my finger as well, which was stupid as it's always the simple things. I was slamming the door on the bad guy's face and I caught my finger."

When asked about which stunts were the scariest, Craig said: "They aren't really any that are scary, but at the beginning of the film there's a roof top chase. We rehearse and rehearse and rehearse and get them as perfect as we can in the studio. There's one sequence where I jump out of a window on to the top of a bus."

"We did rehearse that in the studio and it's kinda easy: it's warm, and nice, the bus is rubber and everything's kind of pretend [laughs]. But then you get to the window in Siena on location and there's six cameras and a crowd of people of have turned up to watch. So I'm standing there thinking 'oh God, I've got to get the right!' And there's a bus coming! It's really disconcerting to jump out of a window on to the roof of an oncoming bus."

As he will inevitably have to cover in every interview for the film's release, Craig explained the title.

"The whole premise of the last movie was that Bond fell in love and had his heart broken and he was betrayed. Ian Fleming wrote this short story about the one moment in a relationship when it's all over and there's nothing left, you no longer have that tiny piece something that made it work. That's the quantum of solace. That's what Bond is looking for in this movie. We also tie it in with the bad guys."

Leno pointed out that the series was around before Craig was born, so did he grow up wishing to be Bond?

"As a kid I dreamed of being lots of super heroes," Craig said. "But when I became an actor it was the last thing I ever imagined being. It was completely off my radar. Getting the call to come in and see the producers was very flattering but this was a nice conversation and it would all be over and we'll move on. But here we are!"

Craig celebrated his 40th birthday during the filming of "Quantum of Solace". He explained to Leno, "We were in Panama at a hotel in Colon and I was thrown a surprise party which went on all night. The production closed off the hotel. I didn't know it was a surprise party - I thought it was a crew party! I had four drinks before someone told me 'this is for you'!"
