The Little Book of Bond
22nd May 2009
"The Little Book of Bond" co-author Mike Gent gave a Little
Interview about the pint-sized publication celebrating the 007
series.
Did you always want
to be an author, and how
you ended up on the "Little Book of Bond" project?
I always wanted to be a writer, but it took me quite a long time before I actually
became one. I have been working with Michael Heatley on various projects for
the past seven or eight years and he asked me if I knew anything about Bond and
if so did I want to work on the book with him. Michael has done various other
'Little Books of...' for the same publisher.
This is the first time that I've done
anything as long and in depth on any one subject, I was
more used to doing shorter pieces.
How long did it take to research
the book?
It took a couple of months in all. The biggest asset for me was my collection
of books on Bond which I used for reference. |

Did you consider yourself a James Bond fan before writing the
book, if
not are you now?
I have always liked Bond since I was a kid when I used to have
the Corgi cars. For me, at 13, Live and Let Die was the most
exciting film I'd ever seen! I'm a big fan of Fleming's novels
too, he's an underrated writer.
Most interesting thing I learned whilst researching the book
was that the first person we see on screen as Bond in the opening
gun-barrel
sequence
isn't
Sean
Connery
but his stunt double Bob Simmons.
How did you fact check the book? Did this lead to you discovering
any common myths about Bond?
The fact checking was done using the reference books and online
sources.
The only one I can think of was that OHMSS was a box-office failure
when in reality it made a profit but nothing like the same level
as the two preceding films.
