British press name Colin Salmon as James Bond #6 as he signs fan autograph `007`

03-Dec-2004 • Casino Royale

The Sun newspaper (UK) are claiming that Colin Salmon has announced himself as the next James Bond because he signed the famous 007 insignia on a fan autograph last weekend.

At the NEC Memorabilia Show on Saturday 27th November, Salmon autographed a photo from his apperance in "Alien Vs Predator" for a young Bond fan. He wrote: "To Sebastian, have a wonderful life!! Colin Salmon 007.”

British bookmakers Ladbrokes yesterday suspended all bets on the popular "Next James Bond" book, as they claimed a number of suspicious bets were placed on Salmon in quick succession.

Fearing someone else knew something they didn't, a Ladbrokes spokesman commented "In the last 24 hours we have had a number of inquiries about Colin Salmon being the next Bond. We have been forced to close the book for the time being. We are inclined to believe that there is something fishy going on and there are spies out there who know more than we do."

Salmon has played MI6 aide Charles Robinson in the last three James Bond films, "Tomorrow Never Dies", "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day". Unbeknown to most cinema goers, Salmon has played the role of 007 many times before - during Eon Productions screentests.

Salmon said, "For the last three movies, pre-production, I've played Bond. I read with the girls, do scenes with them because it's really difficult for them to come in, put on the costume, the Victoria's Secret outfits, whatever, and be judged like that, then remember to be actors. Yeah, there's kissing involved, it's quite a good job."

Salmon added, "Pierce has had the opportunity to watch me do it for three movies. He's watched all the tapes when I've worked with the girls. He's seen me be Bond."
