Casino Royale production budget reported to be $72 million

29-Jul-2006 • Casino Royale

The production budget for the forthcoming James Bond film "Casino Royale" has been reported to be $72 million, according to coverage in Empire magazine.

The budget is significantly lower than the last three Brosnan outings, and is reduced largely in part by the productions base location of Prague in the Czech Republic, where costs are lower.

Recent Production Budgets:
Die Another Day - $142 million
The World Is Not Enough - $135 million
Tomorrow Never Dies - $110 million

Budgets for a new Bond typically start low and increase as his tenure goes on. Pierce Brosnan's debut outing "GoldenEye" was produced for only $60 million, almost half that of his second film "Tomorrow Never Dies" ($110 million).

The $72 million figure for Casino Royale does not include marketing costs, which typically run at an additional one third of production budget for the studio, but could be higher now that Sony is in control. Product placement promotions are not counted in the total budget, but can run high, as much $200 million from third parties for "Die Another Day".
