It's the time of year when award ceremonies are warming up to
congratulate success from the past year. The MI6 Reader Awards
allowed you to vote for the best of Bond from 2005 - and now the
results are in!
| Best Book
With the second book in the Young Bond series - Blood
Fever - about the hit shelves in the UK, the first novel
by author Charlie Higson won the 2005 Best Book prize. SilverFin
sold over 500,000 copies around the world in 2005, and took
home 27% of votes.
Runner-up were the classic James Bond newspaper comic strips
collected by Titan
Books in various compilations, including Casino Royale,
Dr No, The Spy Who Loved Me and Colonel Sun in 2005 - with
22% of the vote. |

Best Game
Despite the return of Sir Sean Connery to the role of James
Bond in the new 007 videogame for 2005 - From Russia With
Love - the honours did not go to the 1963 remake. Instead,
the Platinum re-release of the 2004 videogame "Everything
or Nothing" stormed away with an amazing 59% of
votes to win Best Game award.
"From Russia With Love" came in as runner up
with 32% of the vote. A Sony
PSP version will be released in early 2006.

Best Collectible
The run away winner in the 2005 poll was not a new 007
product. The James
Bond Special Edition DVD Collection box set was first
released in 2000 by MGM Home Entertainment, then again in
2002, and with an update in 2003 to include "Die Another
Day". Released again in 2005, although this time under
the new Sony banner, the 20 title set complete with collectors
tin has proven a winner again with 32% of the vote.
An honourable mention goes to the
1/4 scale premium Sean Connery figure from Sideshow
Collectibles, which received 23% of the vote.

Best Event
Despite the lack of a movie release in 2005, there were plenty
of James Bond related events taking place around the world. The
40th anniversary
of Thunderball saw a special day devoted to Connery's 1965
film, with cast, crew and special guests attending a special screening
in London. The event won 67% of the vote.
Another tribute day to 007 was "A Celebration of James Bond
with George Lazenby" held at Pinewood Studios, England, and
took 20% of votes as runner up.

Rikki Lee Travolta Award (for self-publicising rumours)
The world's media was awash with speculation over the casting
of the sixth James Bond, and it even extended to actors self-publicising
false rumours to try and up their ante in Hollywood. Rikki Lee
Travolta walked away with his self-titled award this year for
a slew of fake news
stories covering his screentest, grass roots support and even
rebuttal of the role.
Of the other media parasites, Fiat spread rumours about supplying
a Panda 007's car in "Casino Royale" (only to retract
them much later) and won 21% of the vote in runners up place.
Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage came close with 20%, following his
claims that he was refused the part of Bond due to his nationality.
