Halle Berry as Jinx in Die Another Day

Actress: Halle Berry
Character: Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson
Movie: 'Die Another Day'
Date of Birth: 14th August 1966
Place of Birth: Ohio, USA
Trivia: Made the 'People Magazine 50 Most Beautiful People'- competition and was a 'Miss USA' runner up.

007 first meets Jinx coming out of the sea in a Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress in 'Dr. No') homage. Unknown to Bond, at the time, she too is investigating the Gene Therapy Clinic for the American NSA.

"Ornithologist, huh? Wow. Now there's a mouthful."

Jinx and Bond bed twice in 'Die Another Day'. First at a Cuban hotel, shortly after they meet. This first scene is a frisky one and involves a selection of exotic fruit. In the final scene, Jinx and Bond romance with an ample supply of diamonds, once their jobs are completed, of course.

Jinx Johnson is an NSA agent on the tail of Zao, a North Korean terrorist. When Jinx first meets 007 in Havana, she has the intention of killing him. But after a spot of death-defying grappling, she ends up falling for Bond's smooth charms. Jinx keeps crossing paths with Bond throughout the film and soon they join forces and go after Zao and Graves together.

Before leaving Iceland, 007 comes to her rescue after the double-agent, Miranda Frost, traps Jinx in the flooding ice palace.

From there, Jinx and Bond prepare to take on Frost and Graves aboard their cargo plane. Finally Jinx nails Miranda Frost in a deadly dual of blades.

Halle Berry says that the character she plays is a strong and modern woman. "I play the feminine James Bond," she said. "She's the next step in the evolution of women in the Bond movies. She's more modern - more intelligent - and not the classic villain."

African American actress Halle Berry has been raising eyebrows even since she was elected prom queen in high school (she nearly lost the crown upon being accused of ballot-box stuffing).

She was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1968 to Jerome Berry an, African American, and Caucasian mother, Judith Berry. Halle also has a sister, Heidi Berry.

After participating in the Miss USA pageant, Berry became a model, which led to her first weekly TV series, 'Living Dolls' (1989). Rapidly gaining a reputation for on-set tenacity, Berry preferred to "live" her roles, remaining in character even when the cameras stopped turning. This technique was not universally condoned by her fellow workers, especially when she refused to bathe for several days before starting work on her role as a crack addict in Spike Lee's 'Jungle Fever'.

In 1992, Berry was cast as Eddie Murphy's vis-a-vis in 'Boomerang', one of the few times that the explosive Murphy was evenly matched on screen. Usually appearing in adult-oriented films, Berry gained a youthful following for her performance as sexy secretary, Sharon Stone, in 'The Flintstones' (1993).

Berry's highly publicised co-starring stint with Jessica Lange in 'Losing Isiah' (1995) made some observers feel that her scenes with Lange merely amplify Berry's artistic shortcomings, while others believe that she has never given a more dynamic performance.

Her film career has been nothing but prolific, yet remains largely unrecognised. She has been in so many movies, yet few have brought her any real recognition, despite exceptional performances. She has her loyal fans, but they know she deserves a lot more attention and fanfare.

Berry recently shot into the limelight with the unexpected hit film 'Swordfish' and the blockbuster adaptation of the 'X-Men' comic books. The sequel, also starring Halle Berry, too was a success.

Berry has had two husbands so far, first, David Justice and then Eric Benet. Despite being a star in the movie industry Berry is keeping up her modelling career too. She currently is the model for Revlon cosmetics and is also their spokeswoman.
